# Fresh Scar Protocol Early Scar Intervention

If you have recently had surgery, sustained an injury, or have a wound that is in the process of healing, the weeks immediately after are the most powerful window you will ever have to influence how your scar forms.

Most people are told to wait. To let it settle. To come back in six to twelve months if they are still unhappy with how it looks.

## Why the Timing Matters

In the weeks following surgery or injury, your scar is not yet fixed. It is actively remodelling. The body is laying down new collagen, building new blood vessels, and organising the tissue that will eventually become your permanent scar. During this phase, the tissue is soft, responsive, and highly treatable.

Leave it alone during this window and the scar will form largely based on genetics, healing conditions, and chance. Intervene with the right clinical support during this window, and you give the scar the best possible chance of healing flat, soft, and with minimal discolouration.

Once the scar matures, typically from six to twelve months, the remodelling process slows significantly. The tissue hardens, pigmentation becomes more fixed, and the scar becomes far more resistant to treatment. We can still achieve meaningful improvements in mature scars, and we do so regularly. But the results we consistently achieve through early intervention, starting at six weeks, exceed what is possible once a scar has set.

To begin, the wound or incision needs to be fully closed with no active infection or open areas, and your treating practitioner should have cleared you for external treatment. ## What the Protocol Involves

The Fresh Scar Protocol uses a combination of advanced clinical modalities, selected and sequenced based on exactly where your scar is in its healing journey. We never apply a fixed formula. Every session is assessed and adapted to your skin on the day.

The modalities we draw on include:

01Ozone Therapy

Ozone (O3) is introduced early in the protocol and used consistently throughout. It is a naturally occurring molecule with well-documented antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that make it particularly valuable in early scar management. Ozone creates an optimal healing environment in the treated tissue, neutralising bacteria, reducing infection risk, calming reactive inflammation, and supporting the skin's barrier during the critical early weeks. For post-surgical and wound scars especially, this modality helps protect the healing tissue while the other aspects of the protocol get to work.

02Hyperplasma

As the scar progresses through its remodelling phase, we introduce hyperplasma, an intensified plasma output that works at a deeper dermal level than standard plasma. This modality allows us to begin reshaping the structure of the scar tissue itself, breaking down disorganised collagen, stimulating the formation of healthy new collagen, and addressing pigmentation that has become trapped or irregular within the scar. For clients whose scars have started to thicken, raise, or darken, hyperplasma is often a central part of the plan.

03Exosomes (where clinically indicated)

For clients whose scars would benefit from enhanced regeneration, we incorporate exosome therapy as part of the protocol. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles derived from stem cells. They carry growth factors and signalling proteins that communicate directly with the skin's own cells, accelerating repair, reducing inflammation, and stimulating collagen and elastin production at a cellular level. We use exosomes selectively, based on the nature of the scar and the client's healing response, as a targeted addition to the protocol where we believe they will meaningfully improve the outcome.

04Red and Infrared Light Therapy

Red and infrared LED light therapy is integrated throughout the protocol to support and accelerate the healing process at every stage. Red light works at the skin's surface to stimulate fibroblasts and support collagen synthesis, while infrared light penetrates more deeply to improve cellular energy production and blood circulation in the treated area. Together, they reduce inflammation, support recovery between sessions, and enhance the results of the other modalities without any additional downtime. LED is one of the most evidence-supported tools available for wound healing and scar management, and it plays a consistent role across the entire protocol.

05Scar Massage

Scar massage is an integral component of the Fresh Scar Protocol, not an optional extra. Manual scar massage helps to break down the fibrous adhesions that form between the scar tissue and the underlying structures, improving the scar's suppleness, mobility, and overall feel. It also supports lymphatic drainage in the treated area, reduces the risk of the scar becoming tethered or rigid, and improves the distribution of products applied during treatment. We incorporate scar massage directly into sessions and will guide you through a self-massage technique to continue at home between appointments.
